Riftladder › Riftbound world ranking
How the Riftbound Elo rating works
This page explains in detail how we compute every player's rating, how the number on the leaderboard is built, who gets ranked and how accurate our estimates are. Every number comes from the code that runs every two hours and from a test on more than 4 million real matches.
In short
- Every official Riftbound match we find updates both players' ratings, right after every round.
- The rating measures how strong you are, the uncertainty (RD) measures how sure we are. Few games or a long break mean more uncertainty.
- The leaderboard number is conservative: it accounts for the uncertainty and is adjusted for the strength of the opponents you faced.
- Players coming back from a break restart a bit lower and win it back with results: we measured it, returning players perform below their old rating.
- To be ranked you need at least 25 games, 5 events, 15 different opponents, and at least 4 events in the last 6 months.
- On July-September 2026 matches, which the system had never seen, the favourite won 67% of the time.
